Sea Shell Wind Chimes Serve As Ocean Stay Reminder

To help remember time spent at the beach, making sea shell wind chimes can be a fun family craft. Not all sea shell wind chimes need to be made in circles or squares as traditional wind chimes, but they can be made into unique designs and shapes, and with the colors of seashells available, they can be made in some remarkable colors as well.

It seems to be a pastime for people visiting the beach to collect shells and with little plan on what to do with them, most people pack them in their cars for the trip back home. Using those shells to make sea shell wind chimes can serve as a reminder of the good times had on your vacation.

The first thing you will need to do once you get home is thoroughly wash them to remove any and all debris that may be stock on them. Once cleaned and dried, sort them into sizes, shapes and colors and looking at the variety you have collected, you can determine the type of sea shell wind chimes you wish to make. For simplicity, they can be hung from a straight stick, such as a dowel rod, or one you brought home from the beach.

Specials Tools Not Required To Craft Shell Chimes

Unlike many other materials with which wind chimes are made, making sea shell wind chimes requires no special tools. A fine-point awl or screwdriver can be tapped through one end of most seashells without cracking them and monofilament fishing line is great for tying them to the center rod or wood that will serve as the top holder for the chimes.

The natural shape of sea shells make them ideal as wind catchers and if made into a circle a conch shell can be used as the center ball as it is probably large enough to contact the other shells being used. When making your own sea shell wind chimes having a center ball is optional and the shells can be hung close enough to touch in any shape you desire so that when the wind blows, they will make a unique sound.

There are many options and ideas available for making your own sea shell wind chimes and the only requirements are to have enough shells for the design you have in mind and the patience to put your idea into motion. Once completed, every time the wind blows it will bring with it a reminder of your sea side visit.
